The History of New Horizons
The New Horizons Band of Guelph was founded in the fall of 2006 with 15 players. Most of these members were new musicians – in other words, had never played an instrument before. Some played back in high school and a few had previous musical experience on piano or voice. But for the most part they were all starting from the beginning.

New Horizons is an international organization, founded by Prof. (Emeritus) Roy Ernst of the Eastman School of Music, Rochester, N.Y. His interest in music and its effect on the aging process led him to establish the first New Horizons group in Rochester in 1991. Now there are over 60 New Horizons Bands across North America with three of those in Canada (London, Peterborough and Guelph). As those who are retired make up the majority of our membership and they like to travel, all New Horizon groups are open to the traveling musician. As well, there are many “camps” held throughout the year where any New Horizon member can attend for a concentrated few days of music making and fun. If you think that this is something for you, or you have questions about New Horizons, please call or e-mail us at the number or address below.
